The Malacañang has announced last Sunday that President Rodrigo Duterte is going to be donating his one month salary in a bid to help in battling the COVID-19 crisis in the country.
According to CNN Philippines, the announcement comes after many Cabinet members of President Duterte volunteered 75 percent of their one month salary in an effort to help in improving the response of the country against the deadly disease.
“The President is likewise donating his one month salary for the cause,” said Salvador Panelo, the Presidential Spokesperson.
On top of that, the assistant secretaries of the Office of the Chief Presidential Legal Counsel along with the Office of the Presidential Spokesperson have also pledged to donate 10 percent of their salary this April. Moreover, they also volunteered parts of their succeeding salaries in an aim to support the so-called “frontliners.”
As of writing, there are 152 deaths and 64 recoveries from the said disease. So far, reports say, the total COVID-19 cases across the country are now at 3,246.
